Wow! This sentence hit me hard enough that I had to put it on my blog immediately.
“I have learned that the three most loving words are ‘I love you,’ and the four most caring words for those we love are ‘We can’t afford it.’”
- quoted from Becoming Provident Providers Temporally and Spiritually by Robert D. Hales.

That was a good talk by Elder Hales. The Church has recently put a big emphasis on temporal reliance (even before the current recession started). They have talked a lot about getting out of debt and staying out of debt. Self control in spending is difficult to achieve. It’s even harder when you want to buy things for your spouse to please them but need to limit your spending to show more love (though this requires a mutual understanding for sure).
