Fave Photo Fridays – Concerts

Posted by marci in 2011, fun

Years ago I used to go to many concerts and I always tried to snap photos from those glorious concerts. Here are some of my memories. Don’t judge the photo quality as I wasn’t able to bring in a nice camera so these were always taken from my camera phone. Lol!

I think this was when I saw Panic At The Disco. This was one of my favorite EVER concerts!! It was a packed tight venue and everyone there were able to recite their songs.
PATD concert

This is Muse, another favorite concert EVER of mine. I LOVE their music and could probably sing every single song they performed! *My friend took this photo and I guess I only got the thumbnail version. Bummer.*

This is from a Taking Back Sunday concert. They were great as well.

The next few photos I’m not sure which concert it was. I didn’t label them appropriately. Sorry.

All About Money-Making Hobbies

There are a host of hobbies for men as well as a plethora of hobbies for women that can be used to turn a small profit with very little effort. In fact, all you need to do is regularly engage in your hobby, as you might have been doing for quite some time and learn how to combine it with your steady broadband connection in order to start making money from your hobbies. Of course, while the first part of that statement is quite easy, you might not know how to even get started on the first one. If you have had experience with making online transactions before, then you have a head start as far as making money from your hobbies is concerned.

The first step towards making some extra cash from your hobbies is to make sure that you can make secure online transactions. Some of the best services that you can use include PayPal and Xoom. If you do not already have an account with either of these services, you should get one if you wish to get started on your profit venture. Fortunately, registering a new account is quite easy as long as you have a credit card or even a simple ATM card.

The next step is to decide on how to monetize your hobbies. This will actually vary drastically based on the type of hobby that you are engaged in. If you do not have a hobby yet, then you might want to try some creative endeavor such as making your own video game.

Yes, you can make a video game nowadays even with no programming knowledge. All you need is a good head on your shoulders, the capacity to learn, patience and a whole lot of creativity. You can start with one of the simplest types of video games, an interactive story, or what is known as a visual novel. Visual novels are basically stories with branching paths and multiple endings which are affected by choices that you present to your readers. Some good free visual novel engines that you can use include Novelty and Ren’Py.

The Story of Grace Kelly’s Engagement Rings

Posted by GuestPoster in 2011, info

guest-post
That’s right, Grace Kelly’s engagement rings, plural. The famous movie star from the 1950s was the lucky recipient of not one, but two incredible engagement rings – and from a prince, no less. Here’s how the story goes:

When Prince Rainier the Third of Monoco asked Grace Kelly to marry him, he presented her with an eternity band set with diamonds and rubies, which represented the colors of his home country. They announced their engagement to the press in January 1956, and the lovely eternity band played a starring role in the newsreels and photographs that were taken at the event. Her understated ring was as charming and lovely as Grace herself, and it enhanced her natural beauty as never before.

But that was before the Prince went to Los Angeles to visit his fiancée in her hometown. He took one glance at the gigantic size of the stones and the incredibly expensive diamond engagement rings that other movie stars were wearing, and concluded that the restrained eternity band would not be right for his-Oscar-winning bride-to-be. After a quick overseas cable to Paris, the famous jewelers at Cartier produced Grace’s second engagement ring – a spectacular Emerald-cut diamond with double baguettes, weighing in at an impressive 12 carats. It might not have been the most expensive engagement ring in the world, but it ended up having the desired effect.

Grace didn’t waste a moment taking her new ring to work with her. In her new movie High Society, she played the role of Tracy Lord – a Philadelphia social ingénue on the eve of her wedding day – and her new ring played a large supporting role. She also took every opportunity to flaunt it in front of delighted MGM photographers in all her publicity shots. All things considered, the 12-carat diamond was much showier and glitzier, which was more in line with her public persona of glamorous movie queen.

She retired from movies thereafter, to fulfill her new duties as the Princess of Monaco. And thus began her storybook wedding to the Prince. Actually, she had two weddings to the Prince, but — that’s a topic for another story.

The Secret To Becoming Successful In Life

Posted by GuestPoster in 2011, info

guest-post
People undergo a lot of experiences in life, and one thing that is common across communities throughout the world is the occurrence of personal problems and trials. Life, after all, is like a wheel, sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down.

There are an unfortunate minority of people that don’t know how to handle lifes many adversities, who don’t know how to cope with life and simply survive with a mediocre interest in their persuits. This learned hopelessness is the reason why many people around the world suffer from depression today, and fail to ultimately be successful people.

It is in fact fairly easy to learn about the ways of how to overcome depression, yet not many people know how to prevent it from occurring in the first instance. Depression is often triggered by the experience of a life changing event. It can be a problem, a loss, or even the experience of stress. Take for instance, a person who is on learning how to become successful in life and striving hard to make success happen. When he/she encounters problems along the way, it is expected that he/she can handle it and not give up too easily. But for some people, particularly those who have an underdeveloped coping mechanism or solid support system, the big problems become impossible to overcome. The resulting failure can be the reason why he/she can get depressed, stay unhappy and unsuccessful.

When a person can cope effectively with problems, there will be no chance for depression to set in and that person is then free to be motivated and strive harder towards the attainment of success.

The point is that if a person wants to be successful in life, he/she should learn how to handle problems and failures effectively. Life is indeed like a wheel that constantly turns. One cannot experience joy all the time – And this is how it should be. Life is after all, a series of both successes and failures. To have the right support network, and mentality is the key to success.

Portrait Photography Tips

Portraiture through photography has been around since the invention of photography. Before photography only wealthy people could afford to have portraits painted, but since photography’s invention portraiture became affordable to most people.  It is the art of capturing an image of one or more people mainly to show the face or faces of those concerned.

The aim of a good portrait is to record an image of the face showing or conveying personality, mood and a good likeness. At its best we concentrate our entire attention on the face either very close up or viewing the head and shoulders of the subject. This doesn’t mean if the photograph shows any more of the body it’s not truly a portrait, all or part of the body can be shown but the main point of portraiture is to show and highlight the face and the expression of the subject.

Most of portraits taken today do not involve any professional models at all just ordinary people for a wealth of reasons; it could be a birthday, a wedding or a new baby, families often use portraits as a way of commemorating a moment in time or addition to the family this can form a lasting memory for years to come. These portraits are often taken by a professional photographer although not always, a skilled amateur can produce excellent portraits but this sometimes involves asking for favors, whereas when employing a professional it can be taken at a time and place of your choosing.

As well as expressions, good lighting is an important part of a portrait. Often in a portrait this is studio lighting where the photographer has complete control where the lights and subject are placed in relation to each other, He or she can place the light to produce more shadow across the face making a thin face more rounded looking or less shadow to have the opposite effect on a fuller face, changing the height of the lights has different affects as well, a good photographer doesn’t only have Photoshop in his bag of tricks!

One other great portrait photography tips on lighting for portraiture is to use ‘available light’ this is where simply the light in the room is used with no extra lighting added, the photographer does have to spend time placing the subject so that they are best illuminated by this light it may be near a door or window or perhaps nearer room lights or table lights, this which is also one of my wedding photography tips, may take some extra thought but the picture results from a skilled photographer can be fantastic.

Great Toys for Kids

I bought my children aged fourteen and nine a couple of great gifts last week that I loved so much I have been thinking of getting myself one each as well. For my nine year old I got a a set of four Angry Birds Soft Toys. Angry Birds is one of the most popular games that people play these days on the phones of any kind and my little one has an iPod touch that she plays Angry Birds on all the time and recently she begged me to buy a copy of it for her Macintosh as well.

You can imagine how thrilled she was to receive four of those cute little birds in real life. Angry Birds Soft Toys make a great gift I think for people of any age and not just young children because even if they are not addicted to the popular game that has sold millions of copies they can still appreciate the cute little birds themselves. Even though I do not consider myself a gamer in the least I can not even begin to imagine how many hours I have wasted putting the little birds in sling shots and catapulting them at the little grunting pigs.

For my fourteen year old I got what I thought was more of a brain teaser but it is also a really fun little thing just to play around with. Magnet Balls for teenagers or people of any age except small children are also a perfect gift as not only are they very cool to play with they can teach you a lot about shapes and structures. The pack I bought had more than two hundred tiny magnetised balls and the possibilities as my son soon discovered were endless. You could stretch them out into a line, you could make a loop with them and wear it around your neck and pretty much any shape you thought of. The boundaries were only the limits of your imagination.

Words Of Encouragement If You’re Depressed

And yes! The world is a stage after all, and we are all thespians. The only burden we have is finding the right lines to deliver in every occasion we hold or attend to. But sometimes we do need ad libs, but most of the time we need to be prepared or we might end up speechless. And for every thespian, this is the worst nightmare possible and the same goes for you if you have a friend to comfort, a family to congratulate, and a self to encourage. Good thing there are a lot of quotations, clichés, sayings, and words that make us express these emotions in the most dramatic and effective means possible.

Words of Encouragement

You must have the idea that the term “words of encouragement” completely and exclusively pertains to those that can be spoken only at times of the downtrodden, the hopeless and helpless all the same, and to the depressed, but the truth is, it’s not. This term is actually referring to the means of encouraging the emotion prevalent at the moment be it joyous or sorrowful. Of course, there are a lot of words out there for you, but the best ones usually come from within. However, some people are not at all good in expressing themselves, so they end up quoting others, but this is not at all bad, it’s admirable. Knowing the fact that you might screw up a good occasion because of your trouble in coming up with the right words to say is purely noble. Quoting other people who gave you the right words is but honorable.

Am I Depressed

When you’re feeling down and oh so lonely, what better way to beat this feeling, and to receive hope than reading and hearing beautiful sayings that give you a sense of happiness and hopes anew. Hearing a friend say meaningful quotations is such a good means of relieving your depression. And the same way goes if you give them what they want and need to hear. So try to encourage others so they can encourage you, too.

Thirty is the New Twenty

I enter the Thirty-something bracket today. Yay for birthdays. Not!

This birthday is a sad one. I reflect back on my years and wish I would have followed through with a few life changing experiences – such as finishing my bachelor’s degree or getting married and starting a family of my own. SIGH. One of these years, those will happen I’m hoping.

But today is just another day for me. And I look forward to getting my hair colored and cut tomorrow morning! So far I’m thinking red streaks. Any suggestions?
