…and let the juice (sssssllluuuurrrrppp) slurp through!
I successfully cut my very first watermelon with a huge knife all by myself tonight!! And then I had watermelon for dinner. No main course, no side dishes, just ya know, watermelon. It looks like I haven’t even made a dent in all the watermelon I cut into a bowl though. Sheesh!
Then I have the other half in the fridge waiting to be cut up!!
Those melons are HUGE! Also, glad I didn’t cut myself with the large knife.
I had class this morning that I went to, starting at 8:45 AM, and I waited and waited and waited for the rest of the class AND THE TEACHER to show up. Then finally the Art Dept Secretary came in our classroom to tell us our teacher has a really bad migraine and he won’t be coming in. Lame. Went to school early in the AM for nothing.
So I go home and do the usual thing – homework, duh! Then I have another class starting at 5 PM. After class gets out I walk back to my car to drive home and I had to run through the obstacle course of sprinklers just to get to the lot it was parked in. Sweet. Not just one sprinkler, THREE. Yep, and the last one was basically aiming for my face. And totally got me. So I’m soaked getting in my car and I’m thinking to myself, this isn’t even the first time this has happened. Now I need to figure out the pattern that UVU turns on their sprinklers at about 6:57 PM. Obviously they run them on Mondays (we have that established) but what other day(s)? I don’t know. Maybe I’ll find out soon enough. Lucky me.
That reminds me of the movie Napoleon Dynamite when they had all those scenes where the sprinklers were running in the background and during the producer’s dialog he mentioned those scenes were his favorite out of the entire movie.
I’ve finally gone back to school to finish my bachelor’s degree!! Everyone say, “Woohoo!!” It was a long time coming but I’m here and dedicated this time to finish.
This semester I’m taking 10 credits, which is 4 classes, at Utah Valley University (UVU). It feels good to be back doing something I used to love. I feel accomplished at the end of the day. Don’t get me wrong, this will include a lot of hard work since it’s been a few years since I went to school but I’m willing to take on the challenge. I just hope I continue to have the strength to make it to my 8 AM class! *Please send positive thoughts my way that I will make it on time to my 8 am class. So far, I’ve made it through the first week of classes.
I will be majoring in Art and Visual Communications and will get my Bachelor of Science degree. I’ve taken mostly Photography classes in the past so I’ll continue with Photography within the general Art major.
I could not have done this without my parents’ help and the prayers of my parents and my siblings! I know they are pulling for me and I cannot thank them enough. I can feel it providing strength for me while I’m at school. Thank you to everyone who is supportive of me in this time. I’ll leave you with a quick photo of my campus.

A student’s eligibility for the Pell Grant is determined by a number of factors. First, a student must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. Next, this application is used to determine a student’s eligibility for the Pell Grant by generating an expected family contribution or EFC number. The student’s expected family contribution is determined by a complex equation involving the student’s financial information, family status, and demographic information.
Gaining a positive Pell Grant eligibility status is not based on a student’s academic merit. The Pell Grant is designed to be strictly a need-based grant. The Congress of the United State of America creates the rules and regulations that enforce the distribution of the Pell Grant. When a student submits their Free Application for Federal Student Aid the information is sent to their prospective schools. These schools will then use that information to calculate the amount of Pell Grant aid the student is eligible to receive. Individual colleges and universities do not actually determine how much Pell Grant aid a student is eligible for.
There is a process however that allows colleges and universities to make changes to a student’s expected family contribution. Through the use of professional judgment colleges and universities are able to make changes to a student’s expected family contribution if it is determined that extenuating circumstances contributed to a higher than accurate calculation. Examples may include, if the student’s family spent more than 5,000 dollars on eligible medical expenses, if the student’s family received a one time lump sum disbursement like an IRA distribution or life insurance settlement, if someone in the student’s family became unemployed since they filed taxes, if someone lost earnings due to a disability, or if there was a divorce or separation in the family after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid was filed.

In all of these circumstances a financial aid administrator reserves the right to make a professional judgment to alter the student’s expected family contribution. If you find yourself in one of these scenarios you should contact your financial aid office and ask them about how to complete this process. It could save you a lot of money if successful!

For those of you who are interested in homeschooling middle school children, you will need to learn a few things about them and their behavior. This is a time in a child’s life where they are transitioning into the teen years, meaning that they are learning to get to know themselves. As a teacher, you should respect this. They may have issues in their social life as well as at home, so make sure you work with them in a gentle manner. For example, if you have told them to do their homework and they have not done so, this doesn’t mean it’s appropriate to yell at them. Instead, take a step back and talk to them normally. Ask them what is going on. They may have extracurricular activities going on or simply do not understand the homework. If you want to set up a homeschool curriculum that catches their attention, try to base the schooling around what interests them the most.

When homeschooling middle school children, you will have a flexible schedule. This means you can teach a child for a few hours and tend to other personal matters when needed. If your hourly schedule has not been completed, you can add extra hours the next day. Some middle school student teachers have schedules which fluctuate and this is perfectly fine as well. You should also be aware of a child’s extra activities. If these activities are interfering in their at home schooling, always set up a time you can speak with the parent. Let them know the situation at hand and both of you will be able to come to a solution like cutting down the activity time or getting rid of it all together. However, it is very important that a child does not only concentrate on school, but their social life too. They need to learn how to interact with others as an adult. This will help them in certain business situations.
so school has started. it’s a little overwhelming but good at the same time. it’ll be good to keep busy and actually have class to look forward to, rather than just going to work 24/7. homework will keep me really really busy though, even though i only am taking two classes. still, it will challenge me. going to class today makes me really yearn for a nice, manual digital camera. i’m going to look into buying one, finally! i’ve held out long enough, it’s about that time to buckle down and get myself a nice dig camera so i can fit in with my classmates and the rest of the world, right? hasn’t the entire world gone digital?! seems like it. so hopefully i can get on that fast. it’s apparent that i’ll need one asap. so i’m hoping i’ll be able to pay for it with my student loan. egh, the realities of life. the financial strain that tuition and other school costs take on you. the benefits of saying, yeah that’s for school.
the camera is for school, riiiiiggghhhhttt. and for business. because well, yes i will be doing business with it too. i already take engagements, bridals, family pics, portraits and other photos for people, so i might as well convert to digital for that. well, better get going on my homework for tonight! and eat dinner. agh, life is so busy! must keep my mind straight so i don’t forget to do anything. ok late.

There are many places to read reviews on schools, college, universities, or vocational colleges. Read them with a grain of salt, because not everything you read is true. Much of what is published is opinion, as this blog is my opinion. I believe that an education will serve you in whatever you decide to pursue in life.
